This year's Big Blue Festival includes an admission fee for the first time. Since the event's first year, The Big Blue Festival has been a free event. The festival is produced by a non-profit organisation, The Hangklip-Kleinmond Tourism Bureau, with just a handful of community volunteers.
The festival relies on donations and sponsorships to raise the large amount of money necessary to stage a quality event such as this. The event committee's decision to begin charging an admission fee was extremely difficult to make. Unfortunately, due to the economy and the growth of the festival, sponsorships and donations alone could not fully cover the cost of producing a first class event. The decision came down to either cutting back on the quality of the event or charging a fee for admittance. So the decision was made to sell tickets for the festival; and to produce the BEST Big Blue Festival to date!
Also, in order to ensure that The Big Blue Festival continues to be a family friendly event, admission remains free to all children under 12, accompanied by an adult. The prices have been benchmarked against other major South African music festivals, and we are proud to say that we are affordable, and offer major value for money!
